Location; East side of Houston, river runs from I-10 to the Lake Houston dam. http://maps.google.com/maps?ie=UTF8&hl=en&ll=29.854937,-95.087872&spn=0.170914,0.237579&z=12
Water; Brackish lower end to fresh the further up you go, almost allways smooth.
.
Boat Ramp; Riverside Inn Marina and Restaurant, 17433 River Rd Channelview ($5.00), good ramp, ok parking, good dock, not the best of neighborhood (but never had a problem). Good Times Marina and RV Park, 11906 7th 1/2 St, Houston, ($5.00), good ramp, not much of a dock, parking a bit far from ramp. Loves Marina, under bridge off Old Hwy 90, ($5.00 per person), good ramp, lots of parking on dirt or grass, no dock but sandy beach.
Fuel on the water; none since Ike
Food; Good burger type fair at both Riverside and Good Times and both have nice decks.
Comments; Nice ride up the river from Riverside to the dam, stop at Goodtimes for lunch on the way back. If you have never put in on the lower San Jacinto you should follow another boat that knows where the channel through the flats is. Not a good idea to go blasting through the open areas lots of sand bars and Ike debris.
